The 6th Annual African Apologetics Conference
Christians are people of faith. This idea of faith has different connotations for different people. As the bible argues in Hebrews, without faith, it is impossible to please God but those who come to him must believe that He is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. The need for faith in the Christian journey can therefore not be overstated. However, there seems to be a lack of consensus on what constitutes faith for a believer. Often, faith is seen as the blind following of a strong belief. The more unlikely an event is, a belief in its possibility is considered as faith. With this view, reason is antithetical to Christianity for to believe in God will require a distrust in reason.
It is this, then, that informs the subject of our annual conference this year. To what extent does believing in God require reason, and how does God invite us to have faith? Our theme, A reasonable faith, seeks to challenge the old anti-intellectualism that characterises Christianity in Africa. On the other hand, we also seek to challenge the hard intellectualism that leaves no room for faith in the life of a Christian.

Ben Clifton is the President of Apologetics On Mission, a 501(c)(3) ministry based in Oregon that equips Christian defenders around the world. The ministry now includes a growing team of over 15 leaders, serving in Africa, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America.
A former atheist and electrical engineer, Ben once believed science disproved God—until he came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1997 through the prayers of his wife, Joey, and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. Though he believed in Christ’s resurrection, his intellectual questions led him into apologetics, where he continues to grow and teach today.
Ben earned an MA in Christian Apologetics from Biola University and previously taught at Canby Bible College. In 2017, he left a tech career to join Eternal Impact and began training emerging leaders in East Africa. These efforts led to the launch of Apologetics On Mission in 2022.
